Dr. Hickey had been in private practice for eighteen years prior to bringing his exceptional talents to Columbus Ophthalmology Associates in November 2001. His specialties include small incision cataract surgery, treatment of diabetic retinopathy and retinal laser surgery.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Charles Hickey, M.D. received his bachelor’s and medical school degree from The Ohio State University and also completed his ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University Hospitals.
Dr. Hickey has been active in organized medicine. He currently sits on the American Medical Association Council on Constitution and Bylaws and is the Chair of the Quality Committee for the Mount Carmel Health System Board. Dr. Hickey also is a past President of The Ohio State Medical Association, the Mt. Carmel Hospitals’ Medical Staff and the Columbus Medical Association.
He and his physician wife, Susan, reside in a restored 1850 residence in Mechanicsburg where he is a member of the Mechanicsburg Village Council. The Hickeys spend much time with their nine children, seven grandchildren, and a small flock of chickens affectionately referred to as “The Girls”.
